Changes to Victorian licence regulations

electrician workingContinuous professional development will be necessary for licence renewal under new Victorian regulation changes.

These new rules have come into effect and replace the 2010 Regulations that were revoked at the end of 2020.

Changes to the Victorian licencing regime include:
  • Completion of skills maintenance and/or skills development before licence renewal
  • Introduction of licensing of lineworkers and cable jointers
  • Limiting the validity of the Licenced Electrician’s Assessment and some other ESV assessments to five years
  • An email address will be required for registrations and licence applications.

Breaching regulations

Energy Safe Victoria have warned contractors that most regulation numbers have changed, and a regulation breach can only occur if the regulation was in place when the breach occurred.

This means you cannot be charged with breaching a regulation if that regulation came into effect after the event.

Energy Safe Victoria has released a document outlining the key changes.

The full new regulations can be accessed here.
