Home automation

The launch of Clipsal by Schneider Electric’s (Clipsal) Wiser Smart Home is one example in the smart home sector that is helping to drive consumer energy management. Through its affordability and scalability, Wiser has created the opportunity for any Australian home to control everything from lighting to automated blinds from a single app.

Launched last year, the system enables residents to create ‘moments’ in which one command can trigger multiple actions, for example a dinner moment could dim lights and turn on music. The key innovation is in Wiser’s use of signal meshing, allowing components to ‘talk’ to each other.

We know that Australians are still mostly interested in devices that can provide a lifestyle benefit and Wiser Smart Home is a step in the right direction towards whole home automation. In the future, these benefits will include being able to connect to solar panels, photovoltaic batteries, and electric vehicle chargers. By educating consumers about the current and future capabilities of these devices, electricians can be on the forefront of smart home integration.

Electric vehicles

The growing popularity and accessibility of electric vehicles is another promising step towards a greener Australia. As use of electric vehicles grows, infrastructure will be required to meet it – opening other business avenues for electricians.
