Malcolm Richards, Chief Executive Officer

Malcolm Richards was appointed CEO in July 2006 after spending six years with the Queensland Electrical Safety Office where his role included developing new electrical safety legislation.

Malcolm has extensive experience in the electrical industry through 17 years working for Ergon Energy and previously NORQEB based in Townsville.

He is a qualified electrical fitter/mechanic/linesperson and has completed a Masters of Business Administration (MBA).


 

Sharon McClelland, General Manager Membership

Sharon has a true passion for member centricity; placing the member at the centre of the business model and developing strategies, marketing, communication and engagement plans that deliver business results through meeting member needs. She has worked in senior roles for the past 15 years across the mutual, retail/trade and education sectors, most recently as the Member Value Proposition Manager for RACQ.

Sharon is a people person whom enjoys collaborating with stakeholders to build the business strategy and tactical activity to ensure delivery of business objectives. She has tertiary qualifications (Canberra University), is a Certified Marketing Manager (B.O.M.A) and is experienced in Design Thinking (ECHOS).


Jason O’Dwyer, Manager Advocacy and Policy

Jason has been part of MEA since 2012 and has almost 30 years’ experience in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from a wide cross section of industries including electrical, mining, health, community services and not for profit sectors.

Jason leads the Technical and Workplace Relations teams to assist members and completing in excess of 15,000 calls a year. Recently Jason has taken on larger responsibilities in developing and responding to various National and State based policy issues and strongly advocating on behalf of members to achieve outcomes for members.


Colin Gibson, HSE Manager

Colin joined MEA in 2016 as a part of the safety and technical team before moving into his current HSEQ Manager role.

With nearly 40 years experience across a number of industries he is well placed to support the Field Support Advisor (FSA) team to assist members with practical solutions to safety issues.

Colin is also responsible for MEA’s triple certification HSEQ program which partners with members to obtain and manage full JAS-ANZ triple certification in Quality, Environment and Safety.


Melanie Woodward, Chief Financial Officer

Melanie joined MEA in 2022, bringing with her a wealth of experience in the areas of finance, risk management, corporate governance, and strategic planning. Melanie has over 28 years of experience in the financial services, community services, and not-for-profit sectors.

Melanie leads the Finance and IT teams with a focus on delivering a modern, professional service to key stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making throughout the business.

Melanie has a passion for business strategy, cultivating relationships, and building consensus amongst diverse individuals. She was the Winner of CFO of the Year in the 2018 Women in Finance Awards, holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from QUT, is a Fellow Member of CPA Australia, a Fellow Member of the Governance Institute of Australia, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
