Standard changes
The changes to AS/NZS 5033 are significant.
They include restructuring the Standard to make it more readable and make compliance easier.
MEA’s guidance documents will cover the significant changes to the Standard. The MEA Technical hotline will be able to assist with guidance for all changes to the Standard.
AS/NZS 5033 is referenced in AS/NZS 3000, commonly known as the Wiring Rules, which is called upon in legislation. Compliance with the requirements of both standards is essential.
The changes also align AS/NZS 5033 with the international standard IEC 62548:2016.
Transitional periods
Regulators in Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and the Northern Territory have confirmed a six-month transitional period will be applied before AS/NZS 5033:2021 comes into force.
NSW is not expected to be able to apply a transitional period due to legislative requirements.
Master Electricians can access AS/NZS 5033:2021 and the MEA AS/NZS 5033 Guidance Document through the MEA website. Master Electricians also have unlimited, direct access to the MEA Technical hotline. Phone 1300 889 198.
