Owen Blamires:

I have operated a diverse Qld regional country multi-faceted electrical contracting business as both Director and owner.. This experience has given me extended ability to represent likeminded small electrical contracting business on Qld member based organisations including MEA.

I am currently involved in consultancy and mentoring in the electrical industry and especially passionate in the area of renewable energy including solar and battery storage.

All my time in the electrical industry I have been excited about all that it has to offer and held many volunteer positions including, most recently, being the Electrical industry representative on the Qld Electrical licencing board. I currently hold the regional councillor Board member of MEA position and have done so for many years. Whilst being the regional representative I uphold the vision of all small electrical contractors, to be kept well informed and ensuring the their voices are heard and acted upon.

Along with my enthusiasm for the electrical industry is my compassion for those less fortunate and I have had the honour using my accumulated electrical skills in humanitarian areas of less fortunate communities such as the remote islands of Vanuatu and east Timor. The team worked together to provide sustainable solar and electrical power systems to schools and hospitals. These experiences help me formulate broader and more charitable strategies for MEA to implement and I would like the opportunity to continue my work in this area.

I believe that I have represented the unique perspective of regional members and would like to continue this good work in ensuring all members views are heard and I also believe my long experience on the board ensures the continuity of decision making processes.
