Connecting contractors and flood-affected home owners

stay safe in floods

MEA is assisting residents in Queensland and NSW flood-affected areas, coordinating the testing and re-energisation of flood-impacted homes. MEA is the conduit between consumers, contractors, and the network provider.

Flood impacted consumers and homeowners are encouraged to call the MEA hotline, 1300 889 198, to register their details. MEA will provide the consumer’s details to a local licensed and insured electrical contractor.

For electrical contractors

For homeowners and consumers

  • Electrical contractors who are available to provide testing and reconnection services are encouraged to register via our online portal.
  • MEA will endeavour to connect contractors with customers in their local suburb.
  • This register will be referenced by MEA to assist with the expected high demand for electrical contractors over a short period of time.
  • Remuneration for the work is under normal trading terms and conditions.

MEA is providing a community service. The register is open to any licensed electrical contractor. All electrical contractors are encouraged to register to receive work in your local area.

What contractors need to do

Please register your details if you are able to undertake testing and re-energisation work in your local area. MEA will send you customer details enabling you to call the customer and make arrangements.

This work is subject to standard commercial terms, direct with yourself and the customer.

Please note: The Queensland and NSW Governments are supporting homeowners with the cost to engage the services of an electrical contractor to perform a safety inspection. Home owners may be eligible for financial assistance towards the contractor’s fee.

What to do if your home has been flooded

MEA is coordinating the linking of consumers with registered and insured electrical contractors. This provides homeowners with peace of mind as these are electrical contractors licensed to undertake this work.

Register your details with MEA and we will provide your contact information to a local electrical contractor who will make arrangements directly with you.

Below are the steps to assist you in accessing an electrical contractor:

  1. Register your details, and MEA will arrange for a qualified and insured electrical contractor to contact you.
  2. This is a community service offered by MEA. The electrical contractor will discuss the costs with you before any work commences.

Consumers may be able to access financial assistance towards the electrical contractor’s fee.

A licensed electrical contractor will be able to test and confirm the property is safe for electricity reconnection.

If you have any questions please call MEA on 1300 889 198.
