Brightest sparkies shine at Master Electricians Australia awards night

North Queensland electricians have dominated a dazzling national field of entries at the Master Electricians Australia National Awards for Excellence.

Highlighting Master Electricians Australia’s strong connections with regional areas, the North Queensland division collected three of the eight prestigious awards.

More than 40 entries, representing every mainland state, were in contention at the awards event, held at the Hilton in Brisbane on Saturday night.

Fouth-year apprentice Naomi Burke, from Horan & Bird in North Queensland was named the Legrand Apprentice of the Year, in recognition of her enthusiasm, her dedication to her work and her commitment to safety.

North Queensland contractor Jason Sharam from Linked Group Services was recognised for the Energy Efficiency Project of the Year, while fellow northerner Mathew Richardson received the Industrial Project of the Year award.

Fallon Solutions in Southern Queensland was named the 2018 Master Electrician of the Year, while Steve Flanagan, from SDF Electrical – also in Southern Queensland – was awarded the Commercial Project of the Year.

Melbourne Electrical and Data Solutions’ Lauren van Strijp was named the national winner of the Women in Contracting Award, after collecting the Victorian award two years running.

Tim Marsh, of Alland Group in New South Wales, was named the Electrician (Tradie) of the Year.

Master Electricians Australia CEO Malcolm Richards said the Excellence Awards recognised members of the electrical industry who most strongly reflected the Master Electricians Australia values – quality, safety, energy efficiency, innovation and the highest standard of service.

“It is heartening to see so many electrical businesses across Australia getting it so right for their customers, the staff and the environment,” Mr Richards said.

“We had 42 outstanding businesses on show in the national finals, and hundreds across the country who entered the state-level awards.  I congratulate all the winners, but also all those who entered. These businesses are bringing out the best in the staff, and providing the best possible service to their clients. In doing so, they drive the entire industry to strive for excellence. And when that happens, everybody wins.”
