Sparkies offer expert help to cut gas bills in the kitchen

Australian home owners are increasingly cooking with electricity, not gas, and they are looking for advice and support from Master Electricians to make the switch.

Master Electricians Australia CEO Malcolm Richards said there was an increasing trend of home owners removing gas cook tops and replacing them with induction or other electric products.

“Electric stoves are cheaper to buy than gas ones, and while they used to be more to operate they are now leveling out,” Mr Richards said.

“You should get advice from a licensed electrical contractor before buying an electric stove to ensure your house or unit can accommodate it.

“Depending on the wiring for your existing oven and appliances it may be able to slot right in, or you may need to do some minor additional work to upgrade your circuit.

“But once that’s done, an electric stove can save you a lot of money if you have solar or battery storage installed.”

Mr Richards said in some cases gas lines may need to be capped or removed, and he urged consumers always to use a licensed plumber for that work.

“Expert tradespeople will not only save you money in the long run, but they will also ensure you and your family are safe.

“A Master Electrician can also advise you on other ways to save money on your electrical bills – from changing high-power appliances and fittings to installing timers and motion sensors.

“And of course, there’s always the option of roof-top solar, backed up by batteries, for your electricity or hot water.

“Australians are all feeling the pinch from rising energy prices, but a few dollars spent today could save a lot of money in the long run.”
