Workplace Health and Safety Queensland are investigating tragic Brisbane electrocution

We are deeply saddened by the news of a Sunshine Coast man’s death following an electrocution incident at a Brisbane workplace. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

Emergency responders were called to a Bancroft Road workplace last Tuesday after a man was critically injured while performing electrical work on the roof of a business.  Queensland Fire and Emergency Services sent four crews to facilitate the complex rescue operation, using a crane to reach him. Paramedics provided immediate resuscitation before transporting the man to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in critical condition. Police confirmed the man died of his injuries on Friday, March 1.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is currently investigating this incident. We hope their findings will help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This tragic event underscores the critical importance of strict adherence to electrical safety protocols in any work environment. Electricity can be deadly if not handled with the utmost care and respect.

Key Safety Reminders:

  • Always de-energize systems: Ensure electrical systems are completely powered down and isolated before any work begins.
  • Verify isolation: Never assume. Use proper testing equipment to confirm that power is disconnected.
  • Personal protective equipment: Use appropriate safety gear, including gloves, eye protection, and specialised electrical workwear.
  • Training is essential: Only qualified and trained individuals should undertake electrical work.
