Stay safe in floods: urgent safety warning

stay safe in floodsMaster Electricians Australia (MEA) has issued an urgent safety warning to all flood affected residents across New South Wales and Queensland.

Wild weather has seen parts of the east coast deluged, posing significant safety risks including electrical fatality.

MEA CEO Malcolm Richards said it’s crucial that homeowners who have been subject to flooding understand the severe electrical safety threat.

“MEA urges residents impacted by flooding to not add further tragedy to the damage already caused and to call their local Master Electrician before turning on any electrical appliances,” Mr Richards said.

“Homeowners across flood affected areas have already lost personal items or had assets such as their homes severely damaged. We don’t want to see people add to their traumatic experience by plugging in water-damaged appliances that pose an incredibly serious electrical safety risk.

“If you’re a flood-affected homeowner and your switchboards or internal electrical fittings have been inundated, ensure that they are properly tested by a licensed professional before they are used again.

“It is undoubtedly a stressful time for people impacted by flooding, but taking short-cuts with electrical safety is not the answer and only risks making a devastating experience even worse.”
