Following RCE Australia’s Master Electrician of the Year 2023 win, we interviewed the CEO, Ross, to talk business, celebrity endorsements and the future of the company.
“We are honoured to be nominated and named Master Electrician of the Year 2023. It has been a very humbling experience, as we weren’t expecting to be judged by our peers so well.”
Share with us something about yourself or your business that you’re working on improving, and how you think it will better help you achieve your goals?
“Over the journey, business management systems have always been a constant and ever evolving system that requires constant updates and tweaks to meet both our needs and our client’s needs. It is a challenge as the deficiencies of these systems only becomes evident at a time when the needs of our company or our client change or evolve due to ongoing project evolutions and company growth. These changes tend to be very reactive in nature and are rushed and not implemented as well as they should be or implemented at all causing difficulties in finalisation of projects. In the future, a better foresight and understanding of what our key goals, targets, company values and morals are will be key in setting the stage for our company to achieve an advanced understanding of our clients needs, along with additional investment into our staffs technical skills and abilities will lead us to a much more proactive outcome resulting in a better managed and controlled system.”

What is a cool or exciting technological advancement you’ve witnessed in the electrical industry?
“The advancement of PLC controls, io and communications systems, over the past 10 years, these systems have seen some extraordinary evolution which has lead to the ability to produce outcomes that then lead on to further research and development creating a compounding outcome benefiting the wider industry. Things such as smarter lighting controls, wireless IO modules, remote power monitoring, all have seen the industry grow and expand into sectors that in the past have been predominantly dominated by often mundane and mechanical means. With continued investment in these technologies, the possibilities are limitless to what we can achieve.”
If you could have a celebrity endorsement for your company, who would it be and why?
“Well I’m a bit of a history buff, and coming from a business that has a had to fight to make a name for itself, if say that person would have to be Winston Churchill because of his prowess, charisma, character and ability to unite people in times of tyranny and conflict.
What would he say about us? He would say that RCE Australia is a company with the skills and determination to see any job through, he would say that we have the resolve, grit and will to achieve anything we put our minds to or defeat any challenge that is put in front of us. He would say that we are a valuable ally and force to be reckoned with, showing clear leadership and engineering capabilities in the sector we occupy while ensuring the benefits of our exploits are shared by all.”
What is your favourite tool or gadget you can’t live without on the job?
“As a business owner I tend to find myself covering many topics and tasks everywhere I go, and time management often becomes a job in itself, to help me schedule my office outlook calendar is vital and a must have because without it my weeks would be turmoil.”

Describe your dream project – no limitations, anything is possible!
“Probably something that is in remote location where the scenery is nice and the project offers complexity and reward that also benefits the needs of the wider community for years to come.”
What does winning this award Master Electrician of the Year mean to you and your business?
“In all honesty, it was a huge surprise, we entered because we thought it would be an interesting networking event and an opportunity to meet people in the industry like ourselves who have similar business interests and who we share like industries with. As for the award, we are honoured to be nominated and named Master Electrician of the Year 2023. It has been a very humbling experience, as we weren’t expecting to be judged by our peers so well. It creates a definite sense of pride and appreciation for all our hard work and efforts over the years and to win this award is proof that the efforts are always worth it in the end.”
