Rug Rat and Teen Program

The Rug Rat Pass is designed for children aged 3-12 years, providing in-house activities for the kids to enjoy whilst you attend the conference business sessions.  Program times:

8.30am – 12.30pm
8.00am – 4.30pm
8.30am – 1.00pm & 6.00pm – 10.30pm

The Teen Program provides kids aged 13-15 years with access to the full conference program plus an ability to attend the Golf and Tennis clinic.

  • Terms and Conditions


    Passes include all activities listed in the program (accommodation is not included in the pass cost).
    Standard room prices are based on twin share or double occupancy. If a roll-away or larger room is required, additional charges will apply. Connecting / adjoining rooms available, subject to availability.

    There will be a group transfer from Newcastle airport to the hotel on Monday 20 September and return transfer to Newcastle airport on Friday 24 September, no cost. If you arrive/depart outside of these dates, you will need to arrange transfers at your cost. MEA can however provide you the details of transport services. Price excludes airfares.


    A $750 deposit is required at time of booking. Full payment required by 30 April 2021.

    Damage and Indemnification

    The attendee will be responsible for the loss or destruction, or any damage to, any venue or activity property. All attendees indemnify MEA, its staff and any/all others from any loss or damage arising from their actions.

    Alterations to the program, cancellation or postponement of the conference

    Conference Program and pricing are subject to change. MEA reserves the right to make alterations to the arrangements of conference/event as published, either before or during the conference/event. Liability will be limited to the registration fee paid by the delegate.

    Delegates are encouraged to ensure they have adequate travel insurance in the event of a cancellation. In the event of it being found necessary, for whatever reason, for the conference/event to be postponed or the dates changed, MEA shall not be liable for expenditure, damage or loss incurred by the delegate.

    Force Majeure

    Should a COVID outbreak prevent MEA proceeding with the conference or registered person/s from attending the conference due to a Government imposed travel ban, neither party shall be held liable and all deposits will be refunded.

    Booking Cancellations

    Cancellations must be notified in writing to

    If a cancellation notice is received prior to 31 March 2021, a refund will be processed less an administration fee of $150 + GST per pass. If a cancellation is received after 31 March 2021 and before 30 June 2020, a 50% refund will be processed, less any supplier cancellation fees.

    If a cancellation notice is received after 30 June 2020, no refund will be given for delegate registrations (pass and accommodation).

Hon Angus Taylor


The Hon Angus Taylor, Federal Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction (MP) will discuss Australia’s national plan for clean energy, what this means for our industry and the opportunities it will create.

The Hons Angus Taylor MP became the Minister for Energy from 28/8/2018 to 29/5/2019 and is the current Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, commencing his current role on 29/5/2019.



Matina Jewell

Major Matina Jewell (Retired) CSP is an inspirational trailblazer, helping leaders build resilient teams to thrive through change. During her 15 year military career in Australia, Matina:

– Served on five missions and earned eight war medals
– Is the only Australian to receive two Republic of Lebanon war medals for acts of bravery on the battlefield and being wounded in combat
– Was the first Australian women to complete the physically demanding Navy divers’ course
– Served with American Navy Seals
– Tracked-down war lords in the Solomon Islands
– Fast-roped from helicopters and boarded smuggler ships in the Arabian Gulf, and
– Was posted as a peacekeeper with the United Nations in Syria and Lebanon.

Gareth O’Reilly


Gareth O’Reilly, Zone President and Managing Director, Pacific at Schneider Electric.

Gareth will share his insights on the impact to manufacturers and the flow on to product innovations that will take place to meet the opportunities created by changes in the Clean Energy market.





Dr Andrew Dicks


Dr Andrew Dicks has degree in Industrial Chemistry and a PhD in heterogeneous catalysis. In 2001 he took up a Senior Research Fellowship at the University of Queensland focusing on the development of nanomaterials for new energy systems.

In 2006 he joined the CSIRO as Director of the National Hydrogen Materials Alliance. He has been a visiting lecturer at Imperial College, Cranfield, and Warwick universities in the UK, and several universities in the USA and Canada. Andrew has also been engaged by governments in Canada, Sweden and the UK to review their fuel cell and energy research programs. As an independent energy consultant he carries out assignments for companies and funding agencies world-wide.

Andrew has been involved in several collaborative technology developments within Europe and North America, with companies such as Westinghouse, Siemens, ECN, and Ballard Power Systems. He is on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy and the Journal of Power Sources.



Wilf Johnston


Wilf is the General Manager for Enphase Australia and is responsible for delivering the leading solar and storage energy platform in the Australian market.

Wilf will share his knowledge of the American and European solar markets, what Australia can expect, new innovations in the pipeline and future solar opportunities for contractors.

Benn Barr


Ben is the Chief Executive of the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), an independent statutory body which makes and amends the energy rules and provides expert energy policy advice.

Benn is well placed to discuss the regulatory environment and in particular how the changing market might impact our industry in the future.

Kane Thornton


Kane Thornton is Chief Executive of the Clean Energy Council, the peak body for the renewable energy and energy storage industry in Australia.

Kane Thornton is Chief Executive of the Clean Energy Council, the peak body for the renewable energy and energy storage industry in Australia.

Kane has more than a decade’s experience in energy policy and leadership in the development of the renewable energy industry. Kane has advocated for and helped design the policies that have been critical to the renewable energy industry’s growth.

His previous roles include senior manager and advisor for Hydro Tasmania and executive officer of Renewable Energy Generators Australia.
